NIGERIAN LEGISLATORS TOP CHART IN LIST OF HIGHEST EARNING LAWMAKERS (ECONOMIST MAGAZINE)

Nigerian federal legislators receive much higher salaries than their counterparts in wealthier countries and key developing nations, according to an analysis published by the Economist magazine.A Nigerian legislator receives an annual salary of about $189,000, equivalent of N30 million, which is 116 times the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) per person, says the publication which was posted on the magazine’s website on Friday.The figures put salaries collected by Nigerian senators and members of the House of Representatives way ahead of those received by fellow parliamentarians in the 29 countries whose data was analysed by the Economist. Army, SSS Intercept Tanker With Arms, Ammunition

The combined efforts of soldiers of 1 Battalion Nigerian Army, Birnin Kebbi, under 1 Brigade of the Nigeria Army with headquarters in Sokoto and the State Security Service (SSS), has intercepted a fuel tanker at Malisa  enroute to Sokoto from Kano with weapons and ammunitions.This was disclosed to newsmen yesterday by LT. Col. Sunday Jimo,  the Commanding Officer, 1 Battalion, Dukku Barracks, Birnin Kebbi shortly after displaying the  intercepted weapons, ammunitions, tanker and the suspect. Leadership news

China and Nigeria sign $1.1bn deal

China has agreed to give Nigeria a $1.1bn (£700m) low-interest loan to build much-needed infrastructure.The deal was struck during Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday.The money would help build roads, airport terminals in four cities, and a light-rail line for Nigeria's capital. Battle in Rivers State House of Assembly

The Rivers state House of Assembly witnessed a very rowdy session yesterday for some minutes after two months of adjournment as pro-Governor Rotimi Amaechi legislators battled five renegade lawmakers rooting for the political opponents of the governor.The minority lawmakers, whose agenda was to impeach the governor made the impeachment of Speaker Otelemaba Amachree and other principal officers the first priority. They thus stole into the House of Assembly at about 8.30 am earlier before the normal sitting of the House and smuggled in a mace.

Gunmen abduct Governor Dickson's Aide

Unidentified gunmen yesterday kidnapped the Special Adviser to Bayelsa State Governor on Power, Olice Kemenanabo. Kemenanabo was reportedly abducted at D-Line, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at 3.30pm by three gunmen. Sources said the special adviser was driving into his home at 12, Iriebe Street, D-Line, when the hoodlums struck. See more

BIZARRE! Lady in Abuja locks husband and 5 children in House and sets it ablaze

An elderly lady living in one of the suburbs in the Capital city of Abuja (Dutse Baupma) set her own home on fire. Eye witness at the time of the incident revealed that the lady woke up early on Saturday morning (5th July, 2013) between the hours of 3-4:00am when her husband and their five(5) children were fast asleep, used padlock to lock all the exits of the property, poured petrol around the house and set it ablaze.
However inhabitants of the said property managed to escaped after their neighbors brokedown one of the exits of the building. The lady (residents said) was screaming at the top of her voice that she is the one who set the house on fire... it's her house.
On seeing that her husband and children were rescued out of the property, she took to her heels but was pursued and apprehended by her neighbours and handed over to the police in Dutse Makaranta.

An arrested member of the Boko Haram militant, shocked the people of Ngomari ward ‘Bakin Borehole’ in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, when he confessed killing 23 people in two days, while also slaughtering a village head and police officers in the area.The Boko Haram member who was arrested on Tuesday evening in the area was said to have relocated about a year ago and hired a room apartment in a house where he lived as one of the innocent Borno citizens who had runaway from the troubled zone for safety.
