187 dead, 77 injured after fierce Nigeria clashes

Heavy fighting between Nigerian troops and suspected Islamist insurgents has killed 187 people, including scores of civilians, while massive blazes left nearly half the town destroyed, the Red Cross said Monday.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered a "full-scale" probe into the clashes, a statement from his office said."Having received preliminary briefings from the military high command on the incident, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered a full-scale investigation into reports of high civilian casualties in the confrontation between Nigerian soldiers and insurgents at Baga," it said.
